My broken Garrett Leight frames

Ten minutes before my lecture, I attempted to clean my lenses. The frames snapped in half across the bridge. I've been wearing glasses since I was 12, and this is the first time I've broken a pair. I bought these Hamptons at the Garrett Leight shop in Venice Beach back in August 2012. For $285, I have a hard time understanding how minimally applied pressure could cause them to break. I hope I can find a similar affordable pair because my back-up pair are sunglasses with an ancient prescription. Sadness.

Damn. That sucks, Erica. I recently ordered some Steven Alan Optical frames to try on. The quality was generally better than Warby Parker and they run $195 for frames with Rx.

Sorry, Erica — but I do think it's worth asking for another pair from them. Seems like an odd break for such a recent purchase.

I'd definitely get in touch with them about it. If they don't replace them, they'd probably offer a discount on a new pair. Seems crazy that you couldn't expect them to last longer than 18 months...

Aw that stinks! Yes, I definitely think it's worth contacting them about it, especially since you were just cleaning them. Jesse stepped on my glasses about 3 years ago and broke them, haha, but otherwise I've never broken a pair. I second Joyce about the Steven Alan ones, I haven't had them myself but they look a lot nicer than the warby parker ones. my wb's got scratched so quickly and then lenses weren't that good.

I just bought a pair of 80s deadstock frames plus my prescription lens for only $150. I really do like the Steven Alan frames, but I really need a new pair right now, I can't drive at night with my sunglasses!!

I did contact Garrett Leight on F B. We'll see what they think.

That's crazy--I agree you should contact them. I'm not a glasses wearer but I would assume that frames should last for longer than your prescription.

that's cray! never had a pair of frames snap like that before. i have tried on some of the steven alan ones at their store in chicago. definitely higher quality than the warby parkers. hope your new ones work out! $150 is a steal.

The exact same thing happened to me this morning! Thanks for sharing. I'm not the only one :) I was worried that I might have used to much pressure or something... but this shouldn't happen to glasses this expensive!

I would email them. I had emailed them regarding a discontinued pair of glasses and they were so helpful. Could not hurt to ask.
